Now meet Masy, She was my first doggy model when I was just getting into animal portraits. This would have been taken at my first home studio consisting of a black or white sheet as a backdrop and a couple of secondhand hot lightsTime
No real time of day as I was in total control of the lighting and want there to be no light coming into the roomLighting
The lighting was given to me my a local school that had gotten all new lighting and was going to be disposing of them via the trash. just four big old deep dish hot lights with no dimmer or colour control, but you know I loved them and they work for me.Equipment
Shot on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II in manual mode with one hot light As basic as you can getInspiration
My inspiration for this shoot and for many of my portraits today is the old matersEditing
Shot in raw giving me a couple of stops either way for any errors to correct in Photoshop I also like to up the shadows and drop the highlights reduce the noise and put some clarity in the imageIn my camera bag
So after many years of capturing images i have change my photography equipment many times. from Nikon then to Canon Mark II Then III, Then Fujifilm X-T2 X-T3 and X-T4 which I still use today. I also love using my iPhone 13 pro max shooting in DNGFeedback
So they say don't work with Kids And Animals, well I work with both And if I had to give you any advice it would be to stay calm get to know your subject i.e take the dog for a walk [with the owner] find out what treats they love DON'T use flash and enjoy your time taking your photos
