Location
This shot was taken at the "Lichtwerk Altona", a former machine factory and one of the oldest Photo-Studios in Hamburg. I had the chance to shoot there during an event of the Urban Photo Collective. The old, functional architecture had its very own style - like wooden floors and high ceilings carried by steel beams.Time
Around 2 PM the sun had no chance to shine direct through the windows, but we had a clear sky and the old, dusty windows made an awesome light.Lighting
This is one of my earliest portrait shots - I usually did only event shots so I am used to take the situation as it is. The light through the dusty windows was great, so we used it. When I would do the same shot again maybe I would use a reflector to light the dark side a little. But I like it anyway :)Equipment
I only used my Nikon D80 and my standard lens, a Sigma 18-125mm, f 3.3 - 5.6 at 45mm / f 4.8 at a 1/400 sec.Inspiration
I was not the only photographer there, we had earlier a similar shot - but with direct sun through the windows and Annika (the model) wore a cocktail dress. Later, when she changed her outfit, I wanted to try something similar - because her new clothes fitted better to the scene.Editing
I just did a boring RAW-processing - customized the white balance, did some corrections with the highlights and shadows. I usually try to avoid too much post-processing. Better think some minutes about what you are doing and shoot then - so you can save much time working in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I nearly always carry my beloved, old Nikon D80 with a Sigma 18-125mm/f 3.3-5.6 lens with me. But in my bag I also have a Sigma 70-210mm/f 3.5-5.6 and a Nikkor 50mm / f 1.8, also a mini-Tripod, a polarizing filter and a spare battery. Other things like tripod, pocket flash or a 400mm-lens depends on what is planned.Feedback
Just keep your curiosity - dont be afraid to repeat something under other circumstances. Another outfit at your model or just another light setting can change your result very much.
