This photo was taken in Upper Antelope Canyon near Page, AZ

Time

This is one of my favorite images from our workshop to Navajo Lands. Our lead photographer, Mylo Fowler of Fourth World Images, http://www.fourthworldimages.com/, is well connected having grown up on the Navajo Reservation and is an absolute genius with lighting. As we worked our way through the canyon, he was able to position us just in time for the light to hit while the other tour guides held the crowd back so we had what seemed like 15 seconds to shoot this incredible, serene scene before hoards of people filled the chamber and the magic was gone.

Lighting

It is hard to explain how amazing the lighting is in these slot canyons I hope this image helps to convey that surreal world below ground. The light is a gradient that continues to change from white hot at the top of the canyon to deep cool colors at the bottom.

Equipment

Canon EOS 7D, Canon EFS 10 - 22mm, Manfrotto 3021BPRO

Inspiration

There are so many awe inspiring scenes in both Upper and Lower Canyon but having the opportunity to shoot this scene, devoid of people with the sunlight filtering to the floor of the canyon is one of those shots that you have to take.

Editing

I did have to crop from the bottom where a photographer was lying underneath me, adjusted the vibrance and saturation a bit.

In my camera bag

I am very lucky that my husband loves photography as much as I do so I have someone who can help bring all the gear! I use a Canon 7D and typically have my Tamron 150 - 600 mm at all times, you never know when you will see wildlife! I always have my Canon EF 24 - 105 mm and if shooting landscapes I will bring the Canon EFS 10 - 22 mm. I have a manfrotto tripod.

Feedback

Slow down. Both you and your shutter. I know it is a pain but always have your tripod. Your images will be much more crisp and it will allow you to get low and slow with your ISO and your shutter. But mostly just enjoy this great planet that we have been allowed to spend a little bit of time on.
