I traveled to Kalispell, Montana to photograph some rescued animals during a workshop. I loved this image of a Siberian Tiger carrying a log in his mouth across a shallow creek. It reminded me of my dog who used to retrieve balls when thrown. This log was not thrown, but had been lying in the water when he discovered it.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while at the Triple D Ranch near Kalispell, MT. They have rescued animals.

Time

The time of day was mid-morning in June.

Lighting

I had no control over the lighting. I adjusted my settings for the natural light.

Equipment

The majority of my images are taken without the use of a tripod. I used a Canon EOS 5D Mark III. The settings were f/5.6, 500 ISO, 1/2500, 100/1 focal length.

Inspiration

My passion is to educate people on the dire need to protect and preserve nature and wildlife for future generations. Just this week, we learned the last remaining white rhino male died and there are only two remaining white female rhinos before they are extinct. This species and hundreds of others have become extinct because of our actions on our environment. We must admit our responsibility and change our indifference and intentional destruction of our planet before we become extinct because the fragile ecosystem we rely on to live has been extinguished at our our own doing.

Editing

Most of my post-processing is minimal at best, especially when I photograph nature or wildlife. I don't believe in creating an image through computer manipulation via stacking or templates or adding/deleting objects in my images. So, my post processing included, cropping, brightness, and possibly contrast.

In my camera bag

Extra cards and fully charged batteries are MUST because the weather can affect the life of the batteries and you don't want to "miss the shot" because your CF is full! I have different lens and a battery charger as well as protective gear for my equipment should the weather change.

Feedback

Take advantage of photography workshops. Everytime I participate I learn so much. Practice with different settings and moving objects. Always have protective gear for your equipment.
