Behind The Lens

Location

This photographic capture was taken at the Hartman Rock Garden, Springfield, Ohio. The Hartman Rock Garden is open to the general public, as long as we respect the easy to follow rules. It's a wonderful outdoor adventure full of nature and folk art. There are garden beds full of plant life. Everywhere you look you will find art. This place is filled with photographic opportunities. Time

The weather was perfect for a school field trip. I was attending Clark State Community College and pursuing a photography degree. I was ecstatic for my day to begin. I was combining my love and pursuit of photography with the thrill of visiting someplace new, and art and nature. It's my perfect trifecta of happiness. Our trip was held in the middle of the afternoon, on a warm, sunny day. The bright sun always brings photographic challenges.

Lighting

Lighting is always a learning experience. Read a lot of books, watch a lot of videos, take a lot of photographs. Study every detail.

Equipment

The camera I used for this shot was a Canon Rebel XT. The lens used was a Sigma DG macro 70 - 300.

Inspiration

From childhood I always wanted to be a professional photographer. As a child I couldn't afford film and processing. I had bought a 35 mm film camera at a yard sale for a quarter. I would run around the house pretending to photograph objects and ask people to model for me. Even though I wasn't capturing images, I was able to utilize the viewfinder on the camera and learn about good composition. I have a photography bucket list including, photographing a lunar eclipse, areal photography with a drone, and capturing a bee on a flower. lol I had tried to photograph a bee on a flower before attending Clark State Community College, but was unsuccessful. I was taught how my camera is more than just a point and shoot, along with other photographic principles and successfully captured a bee on a flower, making more room on my growing photography bucket list.

Editing

I used Photoshop to enhance the image. I enhanced the color of the flower, stem, and leaves, and I sharpened the eyes on the bee.

In my camera bag

I currently own the Canon rebel xt, and the Canon Rebel t5. I have a small assortment of lenses. I carry a tripod, camera remote, reflectors, an assortment of lens filters, lens hood, backup batteries, and memory cards.

Feedback

I would suggest using a tripod and a camera remote for the sharpest image. Lots of cloud coverage helps to diffuse the sun.
