Location
I took this photo in Sundance Square in Downtown Fort Worth.Time
It was approximately 7 or 8pm when I was walking back to my car.Lighting
I just used the lighting of the street lights in addition to the projector lights that shine upwards from the fountain bases.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D3200, 18-55mm Nikor lens that came in the kit when I originally bought the camera. I used a small bendable tripod that is similar to the Gorilla Pod tripod.Inspiration
I love how you can make the water look to be poured or in continuous motion. The spray from this with a F/22 and 30 second exposure with ISO at 100 captures what Sundance Square is supposed to look like at night too the passerby or tourist on their first time to Downtown Fort Worth.Editing
I tweaked the colors and lighting so that it wasn't as harsh or hot. I also removed some of the blacks and shadows so that the street lights had the starburst effect too.In my camera bag
I have more equipment in my bag now than what I did when I took this picture. At the moment, I have 2 extra batteries, my Nikon D3200 that I usually have my 18-55 lens on it, 55-200 Nikor lens, a 18-270 Tamron lens, a borrowed 70-300 Tamron lens. Other equipment includes polarized filters, multiple soft lens cloths, a speed light, the small bendable and adjustable tripod, and my Blue Tooth Timer remote that I use now for longer exposures when I light paint aircraft at work.Feedback
Really, just be patient. Step outside your comfort zone and try something different. I consulted the internet for tips in addition to browsing books and magazines. If you find a fountain like this, try to keep a mental note of when it is busy such as time of day/night, the time of year. For example, Sundance Square is busy with people during Christmas time. The Christmas tree that the city puts up would be behind and right of where the camera was for this shot. Sometimes the organization that runs the fountain may not have it turned all the way up so that the water shoots 6 plus feet into the air. Sometimes it takes a little research, patience, and a lot of luck.
