Location
While on assignment for my film " Migration Towards Prosperity" I had the opportunity to visit Machalilla National Park, (known as the poor mans’ Galapagos), Isla de la Plata is a beautiful island off the coast of Puerto Lopez, Ecuador.Time
This image was taken early afternoon on an overcast day.Lighting
Overcast days give you that diffused lighting that works wonders for portrait photography and wildlife shots.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 6D with a 70-200mm lens. Manual f/8 1/2000sec ISO 200 HandheldInspiration
Amongst all the variety of beautiful endemic bird species, a white-tailed tropicbird caught my eye. I purposely veered off a common path while hiking to get closer, some would say carelessly too close to the cliff’s edge, but I was so focused on what I wanted. This was a combination of being in the right place at the right time with lots of luck, as soon as I pressed the shutter, I knew I got the shot!Editing
I didn't crop or enhance anything on this image, just adjusted the curve a little bringing out some of the whites. In my camera bag
I always travel with my Pelican Case (carryon) inside I have two camera bodies both Canon 5DMarkiv, lenses include fixed 50mm1.2, 16-35mm, 70-200mm, and sometimes (depending on what I plan to shoot) I bring 100-400mm lens. I have extra everything including, batteries, chargers, SD cards, cords, ND filters. I always bring a cleaning kit and tools such as my lucky quarter I use to tighten tripod plates. I have a flash but never really use it. If I am doing filming I always bring two tripods, lavalier mics, Rode mic, external hard drive, MacBook and pad and pen to take notes.Feedback
When you see something that catches your eye, go for it. Sometimes taking risks can have great outcomes. Just be cautioius and respectful to your subjects.
