Location
This image was shot from the window of a cable car high above Gangtok, capital of the Indian state of Sikkim in the Himalayas.Time
At almost 5,500 feet Gangtok is often wreathed in cloud. It's mid-afternoon here, though it could be anywhere in the world at any time of day since all contextual detail is lost in the mist.Lighting
No adjustments were made in post processing to compensate for the naturally low grey light or to reduce the noise. The softness of the image is consistent with the density of the cloud in which we were embedded.Equipment
Hand-held Pentax K-30 through a Sigma DC 18-200mm 1:3.5-6.3II HSM lens: 1/60sec @ f11, iso100Inspiration
It's one of a series shot from the cable car. I was struck by the irony of a scenic attraction like this in a climate that often defeats the point. I was also aware of how fragile and vulnerable we all were strung up there in the void. This particular image made the cut for the leading cable lines vanishing into an invisible infinity.Editing
Apart from removing a few pesky dust spots I didn't have to do anything to this image - it spoke for itself. In my camera bag
I like to keep it simple and travel light. Basic kit is a Pentax K-3II with the trusty Sigma 18-200mm lens capturing to SanDisk Extreme Pro cards. Also travel with a 3LT tripod called Brian, a cable release/remote control and a Hoya ND1000 filter. For the road I also pack a Lumix TZ30 for quick snaps.Feedback
Look forward when everyone else is looking back, look up when they're looking down and look left when they're looking right...and keep shooting!
