Location
This photo was taken at the Haad Tien Bay in Thailand. There is a little pond between the beach and the jungle where, during the wet season, the excessive rain water is being collected. A tiny bridge that you see was built to cross from the resort's restaurant to the beach. Very often I rest in the restaurant having a coconut juice while overlooking the scene.Time
The photo was taken in a middle of the day while huge storm clouds were approaching the beach. The scene became almost dark in an instant and first drops of rain started reaching the water in the front of me. The people started rushing from the beach towards the shelter and I noticed that there is a nice reflection in the pond that I could take the photo of. Took my camera and started shooting when this little puppy ran into the scene apparently trying to save his tail dry. When I developed the photos this one turned out to be really amazing due to a perfectly positioned raindrop ripple.Lighting
The lighting for this shot was almost perfect since the heavy clouds covered the Sun therefore removing the strong glare and reflection that could ruin the quality of the photo. The background (the clouds reflection) became grey bluish but still there was enough light to create the silhouette which makes the photo so minimalistic and making the ripple pop out which makes a composition stronger and more three dimensional.Equipment
The photo was taken with NIKON D5200 and NIKON 55-300mm lens. It was taken in a hurry so there was no time for tripod, just quick exposition adjustment, framing and then click, click, click...Inspiration
Just the beauty of the scene was enough for me to reach for my camera and start shooting.Editing
The postprocessing of this photo was very simple since it came out of camera almost as it is. The main adjustment was cropping so the ground that was visible on the left side was removed. Then I increased the contrast making the silhouettes more prominent and boosted the vibrancy of the colours making the main colour more bluish than grey. The last adjustment but probably the most important is I rotated the picture for 180 degrees so it looks like it was taken above the water rather than the reflection from the water. In my camera bag
I recently upgraded to the full frame camera and now I am using Nikon D610 but still for the street photography I prefer my D5200, it is lighter and less intimidating. I always have three lenses in my bag. One that is capable of taking wide shots for landscapes, right now that is Nikon 24-85mm but I am looking for buying an ultra wide lens, e.g. Nikon 16-35mm :). The second lens is a classical nifty-fifty Nikon 50mm 1.8. This lens is universal for me and I will use it for anything from portraits to street shots to even landscapes. The third lens is a telephoto which in the case of this photo was Nikon 55-300mm but I have now switched to Nikon 70-200mm.Feedback
Be ready, have your camera always with you. Don't look for the obvious, change the angle you look at things and very often you will be surprised with the outcome.
