Location
This was taken outside a restaurant in Southern Sri Lanka. They had a koi pond right outside, that's where the flower was growing.Time
This was a very random shot, completely unplanned, as I was about to enter the restaurant for lunch. Time would've been around early afternoon.Lighting
Completely natural light, with the bright afternoon sun shining bright right overhead.Equipment
I used a very basic Nikon L810 point-and-shoot/bridge camera, handheld. It was the only camera I had back then.Inspiration
This was a completely random, totally unplanned shot, that I took while on my way to lunch during a family outing. The flower was in full bloom and I've always wanted to capture this particular flower as it's the national flower of my home country, but as it grows in water it's usually inaccessible. As soon as I saw this I knew I had to take the shot.Editing
The photo was taken at bright sunlight, so I had to do adjust curves, white balance to compensate for the brightness. In my camera bag
Back when I shot I just had my Nikon L810. Now I have a Nikon D7000 body, 18-135mm lens, 50mm lens and a basic flashgun at all times. I also have a tripod on occasion if I'm planning to use it.Feedback
Usually we plan well ahead for our perfect shot, but other times it comes at random. This photo involved the latter. What I've got to say is, you'll never know when a good photo opportunity comes, so always be ready. When it comes, don't let it go, take the shot.
