Location
This photo was taken in my garage that i use as a studio. I used studio lights here, but i also love using the natural light from the open garage door.Time
I used off camera flash for this shot, so the time of day is most irrelevant, but i believe t was taken in the afternoon.Lighting
I used one flash and a bounce umbrella. I wanted dramatic light, so i turned off all lights in the room and used a high shutter to reduce ambient exposure.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark III, Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 Optic, Canon 430EXII off camera with Phottix triggers and a 60" silver bounce umbrellaInspiration
This shot was inspired by the character of Myrtha in the ballet Giselle. She's wicked and vengeful, driven by sadness.Editing
I did very little post processing to this image. The light fall off and blur are in camera and all I did was convert the image to black and white. In my camera bag
Even though I didn't use it for this shot, I never go anywhere without my 85mm. I just love the compression and it's fast and sharp every time.Feedback
Play with your light. While I had a basic vision of the mood I wanted from this image, I wasn't certain on the light I wanted to help convey that mood. I varied aperture, flash power, position etc. It's digital photography. There's very little cost to playing around. Low risk. Go for it!
