Location
This photo was taken in our neighborhood park. There's a small pond and a ridge with some trees.Time
This photo was taken in the evening. She had just gotten the dress and loved it so much I wanted to photograph her in it. The time had just changed, so the day was much longer, so the light was much more harsh than I typically prefer, but I made it work.Lighting
The sun was still fairly high in the sky, so I looked for a shady spot to get more even lighting and positioned her and myself to eliminate as many bright areas on the background as possible.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 70-200Inspiration
The photo was actually inspired by her dress. She found the dress at Target earlier in the day and was so in love with it. I knew she would be willing to take pictures in it, which is sometimes a struggle.Editing
I did quite a bit of post-processing. As I mentioned, the light was much harsher than I usually prefer, so I had to eliminate some bright areas on the background. It was also the beginning of spring, so much of the grass was still dormant and I had to make it appear more green. In my camera bag
My favorite lenses are my Canon 135 and my Canon 28. I use those most often.Feedback
When shooting your own children, have them involved in an activity or even look away if possible. So often I get goofy faces from my own kids, so having something for them to focus on helps.
