Location

The photo was taken in my home. I'm an enthusiastic photographer having tremendous thrust for creative ideas. This is my first photo on brilliance of candle light.

Time

This is one of my favorite photo form the album "Light Painting". It was around 7 pm in the evening and I was alone in my home. There was load shedding and so I had to lit up the candles to be in light.The candle light reflection on the home decor elephant,made of glass,drew my attention. So I started experimenting with candle light. The photo was taken on 10/26/2014.

Lighting

I wanted to be creative. If you see the background it's totally dark and the red floor merges into the darkness enigmatically. There were two candles lit up at an angle of 120 degrees approximately from the object. Because of which front and back side of the elephant are illuminated and at the same time there casts two shadows as clear from the each leg of the elephant,which are at 120 degrees approximately. Augmenting to the enigma there is brilliance of candle light reflection on the glass elephant.

Equipment

The photo was shot in Canon Ixus 265 HS. Focal length 4.5 - 54 mm. Flash did not fire.No other equipment were used.

Inspiration

Low light photography is challenging and interesting and this is where my interest lies. Although candle light photography is challenging,yet its effect is magnificent.

Editing

Photoshop sharpening and watermark.

Feedback

If you don't have a tripod and want to try your hands on Low Light Photography then just keep the ISO low and Exposure Compensation EC maximum and shutter speed 1 sec. For this photo it is ISO 200 , EC +2,shutter speed 1 sec, aperture value 3.6 and AF range mode Macro. Although the specifications mentioned above are normally against what is being recommended in low light photography,yet its effect is magnificent. I'm not recommending this as a rule to go by but you should try something out of the box to be creative,innovative and different. Also for this type of photography where background matters the most,keep in mind to keep the background absolute dark.
