Location
This photo was taken in a small patch of milkweed in my yard.Time
It was taken in late morning.Lighting
The photo was exposed using 2, on-the-lens flashes. They were the primary light source although not strong enough to make a black backgroundEquipment
Photo was taken with a Nikon D300 camera; a 105 macro lens; 2 flashes and hand held. Aperture priority f16 was used with a shutter speed of 1/60 and an ISO of 200. I prefer aperture priority for increased depth of field.Inspiration
Saw the rather large green bot fly on the flower and it was more interested in it than me. I was able to get several very close shots without bothering it much.Editing
I use Photoshop CS5. Most processing involves cropping, addition of contrast and sharping; some saturation change if deemed necessary. In my camera bag
I use a small bag with extra batteries, extension tubes and lens cleaner. I usually carry a knee pad and small misting bottle also.Feedback
On live insects, I usually take a somewhat distant shot and work closer if tolerated. Some actually seem mesmerized by the flash allowing one to get very close.
