I really like how this shot represents the crossroads theme, with the shadow of the adjoining streets sign forming a cross.

Learnt one thing about b&w, love it btw....the less detail in the background, the better a b$w photo stands out....sorry, just my 10c....each to their own...

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Dunham Massey Golf course, Cheshire.

Time

It was taken on the 20th April and the time of day was 15.35. It was my son's birthday and being a keen golfer he wanted to enjoy a round of golf on this perfect day. Of course my camera came with me as I followed him and his wife around the course.

Lighting

There was a lot to capture at this beautiful golf course. I came across this fork in the road with the sign and the first thing that struck me when taking this photo was the sign post and its shadow; positioned perfectly at the crossroad. I decided to turn the photo into a black and white image as it showed the shadow off superbly.

Equipment

I used my Nikon V1 camera with my 10-30mm lens. The focal length was 10.7; F number 4.5 and exposure time 1/320. I did not use a tripod or flash.

Inspiration

Walking around the golf course there was a lot to capture but this particular junction struck me straight away and not only the position of the cross and it's shadow but the wording on the sign '7th Tee and 12th Tee' as well as the cloud formations and the surrounding trees.

Editing

The only processing I did was to turn it into black and white using a program called 'Snapseed' which I sometimes use to emphasis a photo. In this case it worked well.

In my camera bag

I always carry my camera with me. I have two cameras and many a time I take both. I have upgraded from my Nikon V1 to a Nikon D3200 and a Nikon D610. I have various lenses I take depending on what I am thinking of capturing. But my favourite lenses are my wide angle 10-20mm Sigma lens and my 70-300mm Nikon lens. The wide angle lens is great for taking photos of people in the city and I tend to use it with the method of 'shot from the hip'. This form of photography is great for taking photos of people without them knowing.

Feedback

My only advice to other photographers is to always examine fully your surroundings; it's surprising how many great subjects there are to take. Before I became passionate about photography I missed a lot as I was always in a hurry but I have learnt to appreciate this amazing world we live in.
