I actually took this photograph in the backroom of my photo class in highschool years ago, and it was a old film wash room that it was taken in.Time
Well time of day, it would have been probably around noun but seeing as this is a studio photograph the lighting would not have been very much time dependent.Lighting
Actually thats where I spent most of my time with this photograph. I had one barn door style continous light on the left hand side and a bare bulb continous light furthur away on the right side edge to illuminate the projector and film in a way that would let me see the images in the film. It also helps that the light reflected off the backdrop.Equipment
It was my photography teacher Ms.Battle whom I was borrowing her camera for this shot. It was a Nikon D100 (All 6MPs of goodness) I can't recall what lens I had used but I want to say it was a 24-70mm 2.8 from Nikkor)Inspiration
I've always loved grungy photography but the one thing I think I can say that inspired me to take this photograph was after I had watched Nine Inch Nails music video for the song closer. I just absolutely fell in love with the way he portrayed the world in that music video, the videography just stunned me and I wanted to replicate it with what I had access too.Editing
I did obvously post process this photograph, I added a little more warmth then it actually had but adjust the color temperture, but I also added some clarity and contrast in Aperture at the time (before I had switched to lightroom) and played with bringing out the shadows just a bit for some areas.. Applied some sharpening and that was about it.In my camera bag
At the moment I've only got my Minolta 700si 35mm SLR, a Minolta 50mm 1.7, Minolta 24-70mm 3.5-5.6 zoom, a large reflector, and a generic tripod with a Bogen Manfroto ball head on it. I'm currently saving up for a Sony A77 II and a 50mm 1.4 lens.Feedback
Lighting is key, making sure you show peices the way that you envision them is only going to happen if the lighting is good. Also if you have something dirty, rusting, or falling apart make sure you put it in an environment that compliments it, if I'd stock this projector on a marble table it would not have gone well. So instead I stuck it ontop of stained yellowed drywall sheets and it worked.
