Location
This image was clicked in Watlab a small village in Jammu and Kashmir. The lake that you see in the image is a fresh water lake named Wular Lake.Time
I clicked this in the morning. It was the February, the weather was cold. Me and a few friends of mine were scouting locations for the short film project, named 'Goodbye Mayfly'. This spot became one of our primary locations for the opening scenes of the movie.Lighting
This scene was set, the lighting was done by the clouds themselves. it was a diffused light and the horizon between the water and the sky just faded in the deep while one could see far off a few boatmen rowing the boat. It is just like Ansel Adams said, "Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter."Equipment
I used Nikon D 3200 with 18 - 55 (Kit Lens) Hand held, No tripod.Inspiration
Andrei Tarkovsky did. This scene looks like one of the scenes from Tarkovsky's movies. That was the first thing that came to my mind, also the reflection of the trees over the glass surface of water. It was impossible to avoid this scene.Editing
As i stated earlier the idea was to recreate the Tarkovsky shot, only because of that i changed the coloured image to the black and white. That is the only post processing that has been done.In my camera bag
I do not usually carry a gear with me.Feedback
If you are planning to capture something similar, i would suggest a cloudy day would be nice for such an image. the diffused light helps in getting smooth reflections, the water can be tricky when we turn the lens towards it. Primarily, when we are looking through the viewfinder, we as artists we take everything in consideration from composition to lighting to everything else you have read about photography. All the rules, all the unusual things, techniques, it is all in our head when we click that shutter.
