Dettifoss from the East Side
I have photographed Dettifoss many times; however, this was the first time I made it to the East Side, which is closed for most part of the year due to road closure.
Dettifoss is Europe's most powerful waterfall at 193 cubic meters per second (96.5k gallons per second) and gets its water from the Vatnajökull glacier, Europe's largest glacier. If you ever watched the Alien-prequel "Prometheus", this is the location where the Engineer took a dive.
As we drove to the East Side, we saw many signs encouraging us to go to the West Side instead (which has a larger parking lot.) The drive to the West Side is faster and more comfortable with a paved road, but I've always wanted to photograph from the East Side for more photogenic value. And, as an added bonus, the add-on hike to see Selfoss is rewarding when you can see the side that is draped with mini falls that are mostly obscured when hiking on the West side. East Side usually is open from late June through Fall.
