Thank you for your compliment and question. The owl was perched on its handler's arm at a nature preserve in North Alabama, but not in the wild. The handler said Eurasian eagle-owls are native to Europe and Asia.

Location
At a birds of prey demonstration in Huntsville, AL USA.Time
Late morning, immediately after the demonstration.Lighting
The owl was on its handler’s hand in a bright shaded area of the woods.Equipment
I used a handheld Sony A7RIII with a 70-200 mm f/2.8 GM lens. No flash.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the imposing eyes and detailed feathers of this Eurasian eagle owl. This large bird is not native to our area.Editing
Very little post-processing was required for this shot, just some minor tweaks in levels and clarity. In my camera bag
The equipment in my bag is determined by what I expect to photograph. I was photographing a birds of prey outdoor demonstration for youth and had only 24-70 mm and 70-200 mm lenses, blower, and color balance card.Feedback
The Eurasian eagle owl is the largest and most powerful species of owl. When I took this shot, the owl was tethered to its handler. Nevertheless, the photo was taken from a comfortable distance, with the lens at 174 mm.
