Location
This was taken in the Verdauwoo Recreation Area in southeast Wyoming. It's a county recreation area between Laramie and Cheyenne just off I-80.Time
This was taken just after sunrise, however the sun was not readily apparent due to the lingering storm clouds from the storm that passed through the night before.Lighting
This was the first snow of the season. It was all so pristine. It was a target rich environment for photographs. I kept running from spot to spot thinking "Thank you, God for this opportunity".Equipment
I use a Canon 80D and an 18-135mm lens at 50mm. 1/50 sec at f 9.0 ISO 100. I almost always use a tripod and did here. no flashInspiration
the first snow fall of the season is always an engaging sight. We were chased out of the Tetons by this storm. Hold up in Cheyenne to let it pass and got out the next morning to get this shot.Editing
I always do some processing in LR. I use a preset that adds some clarity and dehaze to begin with. I usually bring out the shadows and then small tweaks on other sliders. Nothing drastic here.In my camera bag
I carry two other lenses: Tamron 17-50mm and Canon 70-250mm, shutter release, small notebook and pen, microfiber cloth, assorted filters, extra batteries, extra SD cards and various other doodadsFeedback
watch the weather. even though I didn't have a chance to scout this location before the shot as we were traveling, I would suggest a pre-shooting session to determine where the best compositions will be. But always be ready to deviate when the opportunity presents itself
