Location
This photo was taken on Minnesota's north shore at Grand Marais just outside the jetty.Time
This was taken mid-day. But that's when the waves were crashing. There was a southeast wind, 10-15 mph. This is a fairly uncommon condition for late August.Lighting
mid-day, not the bestEquipment
Canon Rebel T5i, definitely used a tripod, 10-24mm lens, cable releaseInspiration
the day before this shot we were kayaking in this very spot on almost calm waters. The change is dramatic obviously. The rocks produce the upward spray that is eye catching.Editing
I import with some slight preset on clarity and dehaze. Then I also commonly check the white balance. Not much more than that. Might move a shadow or black slider. In my camera bag
I normally carry two camera bodies when going on a shoot like this one. My other camera is a Canon 80D. I carry three lenses. wide 10-24, medium - 28-135mm and a longer one, 70-300mm (all Canons). I carry a set of ND filters including a graduated one, polarizing filter, cable release, bean bags, tripod and microfiber towels as I shoot a lot of water effects, like waterfalls as well as waves.Feedback
timing is everything. one day it's there, next day it's not. Watch the weather reports for the SE wind for a prolonged time (24hrs)
