This photo was taken during a senior shoot session while the model was writing on the soles of her shoes "Class of 2019". I love the candid shots when the person is not aware of the photographer and the camera. That's why I always try during my shots to distract my model with "preparing" things.Time
We were really lucky that day. It rained all week and this Saturday morning the sun was shining bright, the rain was gone. Towards the end of the shooting, it got really warm on this fall day. The bright sun in the late morning was perfect to highlight her gorgeous red hair.Lighting
The bright fall sun was perfect to transport the happy, youthful mood of this senior shot.Equipment
I take most of my pictures with my Canon D5 IV and the 70-200mm 2,8 lens. No tripod or flash was used in this picture.Inspiration
As I mentioned before, I'm always more into candid shots than the staged ones. Every shot and every model is different, so I need to adapt fast to different moods and situations being able to create spontaneous and candid shots.Editing
The picture was edited in Lightroom. I adjusted the highlights and the blacks. A bit more saturation to the reds and some structure enhancements on the skin to highlight the freckles. In my camera bag
The first and most important is my camera, it's a Canon EOS 5D IV. My to go everyday lens is the 24-105mm, but usually, my 70-200mm is also a constant content in my backpack. Depending on the shoot I take filters, a flashlight, a 100-400mm lens, a 50mm lens, spare batteries, spare cards, and a Manfrotto carbon travel tripod. When I'm on tour just for travel photography my backpack is really heavy and no gym is needed after a day walking through the streets with it.Feedback
My main advice is always to try to stay in the background for candid shots like this. The model should not recognize that there's somebody taking pictures.
