Behind The Lens

Location

The photo of this gorgeous Daytona coupe was taken at the State Fair Park in Dallas. It's a great spot to take pictures with all the open spaces and art deco buildings. It's also a great spot to take race car pictures on that historic ground because in 1984 the only Dallas Formula One Grand Prix was held on that ground.

Time

I took many pictures that day of that specific car. This picture was one of the last that day and the sun was already low, so I was able to get those awesome long shadows in the background.

Lighting

I wanted to give this picture a bit of a retro mood because the car was built in 1964. So the low sun was perfect to enhance it.

Equipment

This shot was done with a Canon EOS 5D IV and a 24-105mm lens, all mounted on a tripod.

Inspiration

When I've discovered the first time that State Fair Park, I was so blown away by the architecture. I immediately knew when I saw it, that I need to take pic

Editing

All my pictures get developed in LR. In this particular photo, I gave it in Photoshop some additional alterations to get this moody retro look.

In my camera bag

My camera bag is always ready to go. There's my Canon EOS 5D IV, a 24-105mm lens, a 16-35mm lens, and a 70-200mm lens. Also a flash, ND filters, and a tripod. Not to forget spare batteries and spare SD cards.

Feedback

For me, every car has its own unique character and style. When I scout for locations I mostly get a feeling for which kind of car that specific location is a perfect fit. I always try to find unique locations for unique cars like this. Just go out and picture what kind of car you would like to see there. Really important is also to observe where the sun will be over the day, which gives you the opportunity to play with shadows like in this shot to create more depth.
