Size doesn't always matter, but perspective usually does!

Behind The Lens

Location

I was "creek stomping" in the Dry Fork Creek that crosses my farm here in the western end of the Cumberland Plateau. There are a number of places where shale and granite rocks form small (and large) water falls. It is a true pleasure of mine to introduce and share "creek stomping" with others. This creek is an awesome place to do so!

Time

I don't remember exactly what time of day I took this picture. Perhaps it is time-stamped by my camera...can't see that from this page. I do remember that I was stomping through the creek during the day, probably midday or early afternoon (warmest part). The creek runs pretty dang cold most of the year...as mountain streams tend to do here in Middle TN!

Lighting

The natural filtered lighting from the many shade trees along the creek help excite the views of shadows with bright highlights! Later in the day, as the sun begins to set over the ridge, certain beams of light that spear through the trees can be seen brightly reflected in the water.

Equipment

I shot this with a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon DX VR AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G lens (I think). I am still learning the settings and features, but am not yet confident enough to do much more than select Auto-Focus, Auto-Shutter, and VR "ON." There aren't any training classes here in the nether regions and I don't get on the internet often enough to do much training online. I do change lenses every once in awhile to experience the variety of shots and how light capture and focal length vary with each lens.

Inspiration

I like to view the world from various perspectives. So many people seeing larger waterfalls and going "ooh" and "ahh" often fail to see the same (and often more beautiful) smaller falls. Everything in life has many views. We should all choose to view things from as many perspectives as we can to ensure we don't miss some hidden treasure - even if in plain sight!

Editing

This is a plain photo, no tripod (just shaky old me), no special settings, no filters, no enhancements. What you see in the camera settings stamped on the photo file is what you get! ;-)

In my camera bag

I have one camera - Nikon D7100...I suppose because it (per the manual) has enough features to scare the bejesus out of me, but is basic enough to provide good photos! I also have a few different lenses (mostly Nikon/Nikkor, but also a couple of SIGMA lenses) that are my "go to" for varying the angles, focal planes, and effects. Oh, yeah, and several EXTRA batteries! I really do not enjoy getting that bothersome flashing battery in my viewer!

Feedback

When taking photos, be willing to adjust your position to get different perspectives. When you vary your perspective, you see a whole new world!
