Behind The Lens

Location

This is a typical sunrise view from my front yard in the Upper Cumberland area of Middle TN!

Time

This photo was taken as the October sun rose over the ridge to the east; just before 08:00 CDT.

Lighting

In conjunction with the morning fog, I used the natural silhouette of the magnolia tree to soften the brightness of the sun. It gave a sense of rays of sunshine without the actual lines of the rays.

Equipment

I held my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 [SCH-1605] smart phone in my hand; pre-set values: Aperture @ f/2.6; ISO @ 80; Shutter @ 1/3744; and Focus @ 37/10; no flash selected.

Inspiration

I am awed by natural lighting views; highlights as well as subtle shadows. This area of TN along the Cumberland River often has early morning fog just above the water and along the ridges and streams within the hollows.

Editing

No processing or enhancements; just pre-sets in the Note 4.

In my camera bag

I have a Nikon D7100 with a few lenses: AF-P Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G and AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G (still experiencing and learning the differences); AF-P Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4.5-6.3G ED; and an AF-S Nikkor 35mm 1:1.8G. I am not smart enough to use filters (yet), so these are some basic lenses - learning how each one affects the photo I see through the lens.

Feedback

See things; be aware. Look at everything you can with your mind as well as your eyes and actually notice the possibility. Remember to look at things from different angles and perspectives. Each view point will present something uniquely different in your field of vision!
