Location
I took this photo in "Covadonga Lakes" in Asturias (North of Spain). Actually one of my favorite places in Spain. I always loved beach destinations and Spain is well known for being a beach destination. So when I traveled around Spain I always used to choose a place with a sunny and warm weather (South or East of Spain or Mediterranean islands). However, I wanted to know Asturias - where the weather is colder and more rainy than other regions in Spain - and I was amazed by the landscapes and also by the food. After the trip, this place has became my favorite place in Spain. Beaches in Asturias are pretty beautiful though, but the weather is not always friendly and it changes a lot. The day I took this photo was very foggy and cold. There was nobody around and we were completely alone in this beautiful spot (Lagos de Covadonga). We loved this spot so much that we wanted to repeat again next day, but it looked as a completely different place because next day was very sunny and warm. So we did a 6 hour hiking and we were amazed by the beauty of the nature and landscapes.Time
It was in the morning, at the end of February.Lighting
I love foggy landscapes. Fog adds melancholy and mystery to any photo or place. It gives a more dramatic ambience which I love. In order to capture this feeling of mystery I set up the aperture at f/11. It wasn't a sunny sky so the the ISO was enough at 250 and the Shutter at 1/160.Equipment
At that time I had a SONY DSC-RX100M3. No tripod needed for that shot.Inspiration
The beauty of this place is great for photos. I loved how the mountains were reflected in the lake and how the stones under the water gave a feeling of stillness. So I just tried to take the shot in the lowest point I could in order to show the stones, reflections and the mountains.Editing
The color was greener, but I wanted to give it a more melancholic feeling, so I desaturated a bit the photo. In my camera bag
Photography used to be my hobby when there weren't digital cameras. I quitted because I was very young and the hobby was very expensive, specially when you had to develop all the pics you made in paper and then you had to select the best shots and dismiss the bad ones (and there were a lot dismissed). When digital cameras started to replace the non-digital I couldn't afford one. However, some years later, using my Phone as a camera I started to get hooked again and I decided to start with an easy-to-carry camera. So, at the time of this picture I was starting to get interest again in photography and my camera was a SONY DSC-RX100M3 + tripod Manfrotto MTPIXI-B. I love easy-to-carry things, so I like to travel with light packs/staff. Nowadays I made the upgrade and I'm really happy with my OLYMPUS E-M10MarkII + M.Zuiko Pro 12-40mm F2.8. I always carry my tripod Manfrotto Compact Light that is really easy-to-carry. I always bring a flashlight in my case. I recently purchased ND filters and a 40-150mm lens, so I got I new cage, not much bigger, but enough to carry all my staff. As I said I don't like to carry heavy or big staff.Feedback
I'm still learning how to capture the best foggy shot, so I couldn't give much advice about it. I think it's difficult because the photo never reflects exactly what you see. Fog can seem an easy subject to shot, but actually it's a tricky one. You need to make several attempts before capturing the right one. Fog changes the light in the landscape so every shot looks different and you need to be quick if you don't want to miss the chance to take the perfect one.
