Truly beautiful work by Guideo Van Helten, which as I said in my notes will most likely be lost when the building is torn down.

This picture was taken in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Time

I took this late afternoon on a cloudy day. I thought the grayness of the day added to the atmosphere of the picture.

Inspiration

We were on a 10-day tour of Iceland and we really connected with our Reykjavik guide about art. So she took us to a friend's art studio and then went to see some of these old murals on building walls around the city. This is one of a series of three murals on the Loftkastalinn building on Seljavegur. The pieces were created by the Australian graffiti artist Guido Van Helten based on photos from the Reykjavik Museum of Photography Archive, which in turn were taken of an Icelandic production of Jean-Paul Sartre’s masterpiece No Exit in 1961 . Sadly our guide informed us this building is scheduled to be torn down and they can't save the mural itself. So photography is the best way to keep this art alive. And I loved the idea that this was a photo of a mural of a photo of a play ..... so many layers of art!

Editing

Just cropped the photo and did minor tweaking in Lightroom.
