Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Central Queensland, Australia. It was a warm winter night and the small frog had climbed up onto the fence post. The coastal town of Yeppoon has a very healthy population of Green Frogs.

Time

The photo was taken in the early evening not long after sunset.

Lighting

Due to the dark surroundings I used a low light LED from a cell phone to provide enough light too enable a slight faster shutter speed, I thought this was best to help eliminate any movement blurring. I also use a inbuilt camera flash at 1/4 brightness.

Equipment

Handheld Canon 700D 55mm lens, reduced inbuilt cash and cell phone LED

Inspiration

Australia is a truly amazing place to take photos, the range of opportunities from plants to landscapes is so vast. The abundance of wildlife and interesting creatures provides a lot of inspiration.

Editing

Post processing I try to change as little as possible. I am very new to photography and don't have any software editing programs other than basic Windows software installed on my computer. This photo was slightly cropped.

In my camera bag

Again very little, I have a tripod, 3 lenses, UV filter and recently I added a glass ball lens which has produced several interesting shots.

Feedback

Spend time looking around, often we walk past lots of great photo opportunities. Take lots of shots, some of the best photos I have taken, I thought were poor shots at the time I took them. Oh and alway have spare batteries. Lighting is super important even if it's just a cheap LED handheld light, it can make a big difference to the end result.
