Behind The Lens

Location

This was shot in the city of Wayzata located on the beaches of the beautiful Lake Minnetonka near Minneapolis ,MN USA.

Time

We were there for a nice little beach walk this lovely Summer evening. It was shot on a pier about an hour (or two) before sunset.

Lighting

Since this was shot just before sunset. I placed my wife facing the Sun but the angle in which the light fell was just perfect for the shadows to bring out her features(which makes me fall in love again ???? ) . Her sunglasses were reflective enough to bring out my figure taking the shot... Symbolic isn't it ????

Equipment

This was shot using my Nikon D750 with the 70-300MM, Handheld with no flash

Inspiration

The Subject and the Light. Even though portraiture is not really my thing, we were on a stroll and she looked beautiful with that sunglass on.. so i tried something creative!

Editing

I usually shoot RAW and adjust the basics(contrast , exposure etc ) using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I love Black and White , and so this was a natural candidate. I did it in Post- Processing though.

In my camera bag

When this was taken, i used to have Nikon gear. I've switched to Canon EOS RP recently. I have the RF 24-105 and the EF 70-200 IS III. I do have a set of Filters ND, CP and Close-ups. I usually have my Tripod with me too when i'm on a walk. I also have a Lenseball and a wireless remote trigger

Feedback

Look for the light. Place your subject at the best angle you can. Just before and after Sunrise or Sunset will give you the best angle for this (and practically any) kind of a shot. I shoot in the Manual Mode, but with this kind of light, the Aperture Mode will work great too. Also, Shooting RAW is imperative to bring out best in Post Processing. Keep shooting and have fun doing so!
