Location
It was a great sunny morning at stunning Emerald lake, Yoho National park in Canada. Perfect place for shooting. Just a couple of yards from parking lot. If you tired - there is a cozy Emerald lake lodge, where you can stay overnight (pricy) or just order a juicy steak at the lodge restaurant or just have a cup of tea or hot chocolate.Time
We started shooting the fog at the lake from the very early morning. We arrived before the sunrise and our timing turned to be perfect. We tooka lot of pictures of the lake itself. The colors up there are outstanding. We couldn't stop taking them. When we finished with lake we started to explore the creek adjacent to the lake Light was still great - two hours after sunrise when I took this pictureLighting
The light was fantastic and scenery that day was changing quickly: every five minutes we have different light coz of fog and sun patches through the windows in clouds. That day was absolutely productive in terms of great pictures and real pleasure of the scene in front of us.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark III, Canon EF17-40mm f/4L USM, Gitzo Traveler tripod with Acratech GP ballhead, set of different filtersInspiration
This particular picture I took when I saw friend of mine @ Daniel Kordan taking pictures standing in the middle of creek. The light was so good that I couldn't resist. Actually Daniel took this photograph: http://kordan.35photo.ru/photo_989854/#author/989854Editing
When I was looking all the pictures taken that day, my eye caught exactly that one. All parameters were within a spec and I processed a little in Lightroom and Photoshop: exposure, shadows, contrast, couple of masks, worked with layers. In my camera bag
My everyday load in bag: Canon 24-70 f/2.8, Canon 17-40 f/4.0, Canon 70-200 f/2.8, Sigma 50 mm f/1.4, Gitzo tripod, remote trigger/intevalometer, set of grad filters, circular polarized filters, big stopper Lee filter, flashlight, gaiters, extra batteries, extra SD and CF cards, pocket knifeFeedback
What I do: I am trying to arrive to the spot in advance to make sure I have plenty time for all preparations. All camera parameters should be set accordingly with the light condition to minimize the post processing. I prefer to shoot in manual mode, with manual focus. I use camera display magnification feature a lot to get an accurate focus. I read a lot from photo masters - there is huge amount of information available in web: tricks and tips. Another good feature - I use Plan It app for my Android for sun/moon location, sunrise/sunset time, etc. Very handy to have when you travel. Make sure you upload the map before you go to the area with no cell phone coverage - just open the shooting location beforehand. In the bush the App still works using GPS.
