Location
After an intense hike, we arrived at the top of Yosimite falls. After scouting for our campsite we took a moment to capture the scene.Time
Well past midnight. It was only us and the nocturnal creatures around.Lighting
Mixing light from the headlamp with a speed light took a bit of dialing in. But I loved the illumination that surrounds the subject rapidly falling off.Equipment
A speed light, trusty tripod, 5d mkiii and 24-70mm.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the experience of how vast and unknown the area around us was. You could only reveal small areas with flashlights, the rest was very mysterious.Editing
Minimal processing, bringing down the highlights in the flash mostly. In my camera bag
For hiking I usually stick with the bare bones, a flash, tripod, 50mm, and a remote trigger.Feedback
I love night scenes and painting with light. Moving the flash around can make it feel completely different. It's all experimenting, and patience. Dont stop till you get a shot that excites you.
