Location
I took this photo at Pimentel Beach near Chiclayo in the North of Peru.Time
I took the photo late afternoon at sunset, the colours in the sky were very nice but I actually preferred the black and white version of this image with the striking architecture and the lone surfer.Lighting
Late afternoon natural light is always my favourite to photograph. The cloudy sky ensured that there was no overly bright areas or blown out highlights.Equipment
I hand held the camera, A Canon 5D2 with a EF 8-15mm f/4L FISHEYE USM lens at 15mm. The wide angle point of view added nicely to the landscape and emphasised the uniquely curved pier.Inspiration
I am a surfer myself and enjoy beach photography especially at sunset. I have never seen a curved pier like the one in Pimentel and was experimenting with landscape images which included the interesting construction. I waited until a surfer came in to the shot on the beach to add some scale and another dimension.Editing
I converted this particular image into black and white using Lightroom which I believe added an artistic edge to the photograph. In my camera bag
I now use the Canon 5D4 and more often than not just travel with my go-to lens, the 50mm 1.4. However for landscapes and for some originality I often also use a wide angle lens.Feedback
Try different angles and perspectives and experiment with different lenses that you own. For the best light choose either early morning, sunrise or late afternoon, sunset. Have fun with your photography and you will get some nice results.
