This photo was taken from a mountain peak neighboring Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.Time
I took this photo in the late morning in January. This is normally Rio's summer so we were originally very disappointed that the thick fog was not clearing out.Lighting
When we arrived to Rio De Janeiro, we were extremely disappointed in the unusually foggy weather conditions. Part of the reason that Rio is such a fabulous destination, is the incredible beauty of the lush mountains that surround the city. The fog and clouds were so dense that for the first two days we couldn't see the peaks of any of the surrounding mountains. We had planned for a private, guided tour of the sites and nearly cancelled because we didn't think we would be able to even see anything. It was a last minute decision to meet up with the guide, and I'm absolutely thrilled that we did. When we reached the peak of a neighboring mountain, all we saw were clouds, and yet for a very brief instant, Christ the Redeemer became visible and I was able to capture this heavenly scene. Patience is the key to capturing special and unique moments, and it's times like this that resisting the urge to just give up and walk away really pays off.Equipment

We were originally devastated that the thick clouds and fog were blocking the gorgeous views of Rio, but when our tour guide said that normally you can see Christ the Redeemer from the overlook, I insisted we stick around to try and capture a moment which I had never seen exhibited of the iconic statue.Editing

When traveling, I always carry my 5dm3 body, 50mm f/1.4, canon zoom 70-200 with 1.4 extender, and canon wide angle 16-35. I usually take thousands of pictures on each trip and use my husband as an assistant to help shuffle my lenses, which is definitely a plus!Feedback
A little bit of anticipation paired with a lot of patience is key. If you can foresee a spectacular moment, don't rush off, you may be about to capture one of the greatest moments imaginable.
