Location
It was one night at Ölfusá ,during my road trip in frozen Iceland with Lemonpiefilms.gr. I love travelling and my aim is to make people travel mentally through my pictures.Time
I cannot forget that day .We were travelling for 3 days in the country ,but we hadn’t seen the northern lights yet. The third night we stop in this magnificent place , well prepared for the cold ,hoping that we would be lucky this night. After some minutes ,our eyes get used to the darkness and we could detect the Milky Way which I started to capture. It was not long ago ,when suddenly green colours appeared on the sky and the northern lights started dancing ,lighting the Milky Way .It was the 16th of October 2016 and time 11:45pm.Lighting
I was not in need of any artificial lights but only of the natural light of the aurora.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D610,with an Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 lens,a Manfrotto tripod 290 and a Polaroid wireless remote. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
My passion for the nature makes me travel around the world exploring new beautiful captures. My only inspiration for this photo was these unique astronomical phenomena, the Northern Lights and the Milky Way.Editing
Usually landscape photography requires a lot of processing. In this particular case, I had to develop the raw 2 times (one for the Milky Way and another for the Northern Lights and its reflection on the water. In my camera bag
The first thing I always pack is my Nikon D610 body with two 64GB SD cards. Moreover, I pack the following lenses: a Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 for landscapes shots, a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 for portraits and city shots, a Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 for amazing portraits,a Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 for zoom, and some times I have with me a Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Macro, a Manfrotto tripod 290, a Polaroid wireless remote, a Hoya filter PROND 1000 77mm with adaptors suitable for some of my lenses and my favorite gadget Triggertrap Mobile.Feedback
Unfortunately, meeting the Northern Lights and the Milky Way is not so easy because of the climate as the weather changes abruptly depending on the day.It is possible to confront cold, clouds, rain and extremely strong winds. Therefore, you will be in need of isotherm cloths and good quality thin gloves in order to be comfortable in the cold. Moreover, take care of your transportation, as there is rare public transport in many nice parts of Iceland . Another important advice is to procure a device for wireless internet ,which will give you the chance to surf in many helpful websites that can offer you important information for your travel. Last but not least, carrying a torch and a headlight will be really useful during your trip.
