Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Grand Central Station in New York City.

Time

Early evening. But it didn't make any difference the time because this location is an underground platform to take the trains. No sunlight at all.

Lighting

There is something interesting about the lights on that location that still an unresolved code in my brain but one thing for sure I see is a warrior mask. Go figure. :)

Equipment

Canon 60D, 18-135 mm lens, no tripod.

Inspiration

I was showing around the Grand Central Station in NYC to my 4 years old boy. When we got near the tracks and not seen nobody on the rush hour was my first instant calling. What is going on here? And than I saw the symmetrical spot to capture. That was my second calling. I just love the lines (vertical, horizontals and perspective) from the architecture standpoint.

Editing

I always capture my photos in color. This one I did in raw format, and then I converted to grayscale/b&w image on Lightroom and Photoshop combo apps.

In my camera bag

DSLR Canon, any lens, cable release, lots of memory cards, batteries, flash.

Feedback

For that particular moment I had to seat in the floor to keep my camera steady (I had no tripod), it was low light conditions. Took a quick decision to figure out the best positions to take my shoots. I tried couple different settings in my camera, why not right? One of important part was to keep an interesting conversation with my young boy in order to help me out to take my shoots. I think is very important device when you see opportunities to take photos and you have someone near you without camera. :) Plan ahead where you are going to photograph and what equipment you are taking with you. Study the place that you are in. Envision and learn how to do better is one of the best advice. "If I have a chance to go back to the same location that I was before, how you can do better this time? what else to capture?" these are some questions that I apply to myself. And always be persistant to improve your craft, enjoy the moment.
