Location
Photo was taken near Virpazar, small fishing settlement on the Skadar Lake in Montenegro. It is the largest lake on Balkan Peninsula, and one of Montenegro national landmarks.Time
My original plan was to catch the early morning mist that rises over the lake on cold December days, but mist was not as good as it can be, so I decided to get a bit higher ground and see what I can get with the rising sun. It was sometime around 6:30 in the morning, and when I saw the rays of sunlight lighting the trees in the valley, I knew my trip has payed off.Lighting
It was very cold early morning, with a few windy days defore, so the air was clear, without any polution, and the light just after the sunrise is always good for a photograpy, so I was very lucky to be able to catch that moment.Equipment
This was shot with Nikon D7100, with Nikkor 16-86mm f/1:3.5-5.6G VR DX lens with CPL filter, tripod and IR remote.Inspiration
Hills above the Skadar Lake are excellent spot for making the sunrise photos, because the sun is rising just opposite of you, above magnificent Prokletije mountains. Once I was passing through this area on an early winter morning, and the morning mist, with early sunlight seemed like some fairy tale sceene. So I decided to get back here on some nice winter morning, and try to capture that magic.Editing
Post-processing was made in matter of modification to the highlights and shadows, with a bit of clarity added, colors were vivid enough so I had no need to tamper with it. Also did some sharpening, focused mostly on the trees in the lower right part of the photo. As a final touch, I balanced the levels of whites and blacks to remove few burnout spots. In my camera bag
Since I am mostly a nature and landscape amateur photographer, I usually carry around Nikon D7100 with Nikkor 16-85mm f/1:3.5-56G VR and Nikkor 55-300mm f/1:4.5-56G VR lens, and Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 prime lens, tripod, some filters and remote. These are all DX lenses, since I use the DX sensor camera, and they cover almost everything I came upon during my photo trips. Also, when I want to experiment with some plant macros, I carry Tamron 60mm f/2 1:1 macro lens. And a few sandwiches, of course.Feedback
Sunrise is one of the most beautiful events in nature, and amazing photo oportunity. Every season, even each day is an different experience of this beautiful spectacle of nature. So, don't waste your time, explore your surroundings, and find some nice spot for an early morning photo, you will be surprised with the results.
