Behind The Lens

Location

"Rasmus's team" was photographed (48 years ago) outside of Illulissat,Greenland. Bob Murray and I filming a documentary about the role of helicopters in the modernization of travel between towns along the West coast. We were recording the sights and sounds of the dog teams on the route to the fishing grounds beneath the ice covering Disco Bay

Time

It was late afternoon.

Lighting

We were fortunate to have this clear day. The light ws contrasty.

Equipment

I allways carried a Nikon F in addition to my Arriflex motion picture camera. I made this exposure with Kodachrome II. Exposure was !/250sec f 5.6.

Inspiration

The Greenland adventure remains the most vivid chapter of my film-making career. I was struck by the erie silence in this remote wilderness.

Editing

Years later,I scanned the transparency to make this B&W conversion in Silver Efex.

In my camera bag

I am mostly retired now, but I still carry a Sony A7S and an array of legacy lenses from Zeiss.

Feedback

Take a chance when the opportunity presents itself.
