I have never seen a capture more cute than this. Brilliantly composed, too. Love the detail especially how the one foot is tucked under. A phototure in a million!!!

Location
This image was taken during a newborn session at my studio.Time
This photo was taken in the afternoon, nothing out of the ordinary as it was a regular scheduled newborn session.Lighting
For this set up I used a 86" PLM with a black/silver cover. I pair that with an alien bee 800 set to its lowest setting.Equipment
I shoot with a Nikon D700, and my nifty fifty 1.4. In studio I almost exclusively use my 50mm paired with my alien bee strobe unit.Inspiration
Anyone who knows me knows that I love dogs, I have 2 of my own and I always encourage my clients to bring them along as they too are part of the family and hold a special place in their hearts. When my client told me she had this adorable little ball of fur without hesitation I told her she must bring her. She was such a delight! She laid like this for about 60 seconds which is a lot if your counting ;)Editing
For post processing I am pretty basic, I do a very light run of portraiture for the skin, along with cleaning up the blanket and smoothing it out. I touch up any dry skin or acne on baby and soften any extreme red areas or blotches. In my camera bag
In my camera bag I carry my Nikon D700, my 50mm 1.4, a 85mm 1.8, 24-70 2.8, and a 80-200 2.8 (my relic). I am a fan of trying to work with what I have so many of my lenses are older but in great shape. I also use a Yongnuo flash when on location.Feedback
I always tell fellow photographers when posing babies, taking a laid back approach is best. Never get yourself worked up or stressed over a pose, it will happen when its meant to and sometimes it requires more time then you predict. When clients bring their pets I ensure that the animal is comfortable with me first and foremost. They need to be ok with me handling them, otherwise it could startle the baby if the pet gets too excited or nervous. I have done this pose a few times in studio and it has been successful as it seems natural for smaller dogs to lay their heads in the crook of the babies back. I do advise leaving enough space between the baby and the backdrop though since sometimes the pet backs up.
