Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard. As a matter of fact, the setting is a macro view of my Jacuzzi cover, which is home to a number of spiders, yikes!

Time

The photo was taken during the mid-afternoon, however thanks to the shade under which the Jacuzzi is located, my flash was strong enough to capture the scene.

Lighting

Essentially, the scene was captured using my built-in camera flash.

Equipment

The photo was captured on my Canon Rebel T3i with its 18-55mm kit lens. Photo was taken free hand and as mentioned prior, the built in flash was used to brighten up the scene.

Inspiration

The beauty of nature and how incredible it is when looked at from a macro perspective inspired me to capture the photo. It's incredible how, in a world so large, there are so many smaller ecosystems that coexist.

Editing

No post-processing was used in the photo.

In my camera bag

Back when the photo was taken, I only had two lenses at my disposal, that being the kit Canon lens (18-55mm) and my Canon zoom lens (55-200mm). Currently, I use a Rebel T6i with a 50mm Prime and Polarizer. Also in my bag is a Canon external flash, Manfrotto Tripod and a Sigma 18-200mm!

Feedback

I believe the best advice I can give is stay open minded and pay attention to details. Rather than trying to capture a whole scene (such as the Jacuzzi), investigate more closely and find what makes the Jacuzzi, or setting, more interesting (for example a Spider and rain drop). Within the details lies more interesting stories and creative opportunities.
