Location
Taken from a blind n the Javelina Ranch in South Texas where I saw this Pyrrhuloxia for the first time, mistaking it for a Cardinal. This bird is also known as the Desert Cardinal.Time
Early morning around 8am just as we settled into the blind.Lighting
The rising sun was coming up over my right shoulder and fell fully on the bird. The only problem was not burning out the sun reflections on the tree limbs.Equipment
This was shot with the Canon 5DMkII, 1/90 sec at f5.6, ISO 800, EF 500mm Lens with 1.4x extender.Inspiration
I love capturing birds and especially unusual birds and this one struck me as one of the most beautiful I had ever seen.Editing
Performed the normal raw processing with Lightroom paying special attention to tone and coloring to accurately portray the bird. Further smooth out the background although the bokeh out of the camera was beautiful. In my camera bag
My bag normally holds the Nikon D5, D800e bodies and an assortment of lenses providing coverage from 14mm to 500mm. Uses extenders often when shooting birds. Was trying out some Canon gear on this trip!Feedback
Patience, patience, patience! And be ready when the right moment arrives.
