Brainard Lake, CO. This incredible place is located near Ward, Colorado, and hosts several large male Moose. The reflections on a calm day are phenomenal and it would be very hard to take a bad photo there!

Beautiful capture of Mt. Brainard and Niwot Ridge. This is a great hiking location. Composition is very nice. Love the reflections.

Location
This photo was shot at Brainard Lake, near Ward, Colorado.Time
Early morning just after sunrise, the alpen-glow had faded away, and the true colors of the mountain range were in full view.Lighting
The sun was behind me so I was able to get the full affect of perfect natural lighting.Equipment
I made this shot without a tripod. I find that somethings are better shot handheld, as it gives a more comfortable and personal feel to the finished product. The camera was a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS, 1/8.0 f-stop, IOS of 400, and shutter speed at 1/640Inspiration
I have always been amazed and mesmerized by natural occurring reflections. I often go in search of such shots, just to view the tremendous beauty that surrounds us. Living in Colorado, there are countless opportunities to catch the very rich colors of all the seasons. And the reflections, be they river, lake, pond or snow melt on a roadside, are phenomenal!Editing
This photo is straight from the camera, no post editing. I do wish I had gotten rid of the sign and it's reflection, but that was an after thought and I had already posted to this site.In my camera bag
My camera bag is pretty basic really. Now it's the Canon EOS Rebel T3, 18-55mm lens, 75-300mm, the 400mm lens, normal quick cleaning supplies, remote for tripod shots, pad and pen to jot down important info on flora and fauna. I also carry a small first-aid kit in the side pocket!Feedback
Check out your area's hiking, biking, or mountain trails, or look on a map or Google Earth for some unique photo ops. You already know what you like, so try to find a special place you may have heard of recently, or a place that you visited once or twice and always wanted to go back. Make sure your camera equipment is performing up to par; no spots on lenses, charged batteries, etc. and go for broke! Early morning usually offers the best natural light. Sometimes the most beautiful images are right in front of our eyes. Pick a spot, explore its photogenic possibilities, and make a day of it. Above all, have fun!
