Location
This photo was taken in the south west desert area of Wyoming.Time
I had a lazy winter morning to myself so I got up early and trekked out early to a location these animals are known to roam. This photo was taken about an hour and a half after sunrise.Lighting
There was a bit of backlighting in this shot but I was blessed with a thin cloud cover and then spot metered off of the horse.Equipment
I shot this with a Canon 7D body and Canon EF 24-105 L IS USM lens and polarizer. I did not use any other filters on the lens. It was light enough I did not need a tripod or any other stabilizing equipment.Inspiration
I love horses so these wild horses are a favorite of mine for shooting.Editing
I didn't do too much to this shot. I simply sharpened a bit and layered a black and white conversion in light room.In my camera bag
The 24-105mm is my workhorse lens, I shoot at least 90% of my photography with this lens.Feedback
Shooting wildlife in this area of the state is generally easy to do as it is a desert setting. If you can find the 'local watering hole' and show up with patience, the wildlife will come to you.
