Behind The Lens

Location

In my model's apartment near a glass sliding door.

Time

Around 11:00 AM.

Lighting

The lighting is all natural light. We tried a large reflector opposite the window/door, but it was a very soft light and didn't create much extra effect.

Equipment

Canon EOS 6D, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8

Inspiration

I wanted to try nudes for the first time and I've been interested in finding flattering an elegant forms/poses for this medium. This idea took a bit of on-the-spot planning but worked better than expected considering the resources at hand.

Editing

Yes, I always do post-processing. This one is clearly desaturated, and coloured textures were overlaid to add some colour to it along with the textures. Since it was shot against a blank wall, I figured some extra texture on top of the tulle would spruce it up. The textures used were from Jessica Drossin's Grunge collection. I also did some basic retouching on the skin to soften it, remove blemishes, and even the tones.

In my camera bag

My Canon 6D and my 50mm lens. That's it, usually.

Feedback

This shot was achieved by having my model start with the tulle draped over her face and torso, with her holding the ends, and when we were both ready, having her throw it back. I described the motion I wanted her to make with her body and I used burst-shutter mode on my camera to have a few shots to choose from. It took about 4 tries to get what I wanted. There was also a large fan on the floor under the section of tulle to the far left corner of the frame blowing it upwards for effect.
