Location
This photo was taken off highway 1 in California. I went close to Big Sur (3 hour driver for me) because there is very little light pollution down there and just pulled on the side of highway 1 and took hundreds of pictures for the next 3 hours while I was chillen in my car.Time
I started taking pictures with a 30 second shutter at like 10:45. 3 hours later I had take hundreds of pictures and I was done.Lighting
As the earth rotates the stars don't move and therefore they seem to rotate in the sky. I took enough pictures and layered them for this effect. Low lighting so I need to use a long shutter speed and and low iso for best quality. When I started the moon was not up so I could get the best pictures of the starsEquipment
I used a Canon T5i with a standard 30-60MM lens and a tripod that I had got off Amazon for about 20$. I also used a flash in attempt to get the foreground.Inspiration
I had seen many images like this and wondered if I could capture one in the same fashion. I also love the stars and playing with long exposerEditing
Yes I did. I had to stack the images using a software made for it. By stacking many images of the stars over a period of time you get a better quality and don't ruin your camera. Don't try to keep the shutter open for a long time to get this pictureIn my camera bag
I usually carry just my camera and 2 lens. I also carry lens extenders for macro photography and a micro fiber cloth for keeping my lens clean.Feedback
For a picture like this I have a couple pieces of advice: Check the squedule of the moon and make sure to go when it's not in the sky. The darker out it is the better. Wait for the weather to predict clear sky's at night. If there are a lot of clouds it will wash out many of the stars. Look for a map of light pollution and try to stick the sky's where it is darkest.
