Location
I took the photo in the Mountain Zebra National Park. It seemed as if the ostrich wanted to showoff and performed a dance. The national park is near Cradock in the Eastern Cape.Time
This was taken on 20 September 2019 at 16:55. The sun was still high and therefore the natural light was good without having a negative effect on the photo.Lighting
I wanted to capture the image as sharply as possible and draw the attention on the ostrich without interference of the background.Equipment
The camera that I used is a Nikon D5500. The lens is a AF-S NIKKOR 55-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 G ED DX VR.Inspiration
The ostrich was performing and I wanted to take a photo where it looked like him asking: "Are you at least paying attention to my display."Editing
I had done no post-processing or cropping. In my camera bag
I recently bought a Nikon D850 and AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens. I additionally have a AF-S NIKKOR18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6GII ED DX lens.Feedback
South Africa has many national parks and nature reserves each one with it's specific collection of wild animals, birds, plants and landscapes. Decide what you want to photograph at what time of the year and plan your trip accordingly. Have patience and decide whether the scenery is good for a landscape, a group photo or if there is an animal doing something interesting.
