Location
The photo was taken next to Windsor Castle. Home of British monarchs since 1086.Time
It was taken if I recall in 1999 and was part of our self-guided walking tour of the town. My wife is from England and her cousin lived in Windsor at the time. Everything was with in walking distance. The time of day would jave been mid-morning as we made our way towards the main castle entrance to watch the changing of the guard.Lighting
Nothing noteworthy about the lighting. It was slightly overcast so making use of the light was difficult.Equipment
The original picture was taken with my Yashica FXD on Kodak 200 ISO. The settings now are forgotten but likely in the f5.8 range and 1/125Inspiration
I was looking for something different and found out the Blue Air Mail box is only one of a few dozen left in the country at the time. None of this type of group was to be found anywhere else - the Stamp Machine, Regular and Airmail boxes.Editing
This was a scanned negative so the original print was completely in colour. Because I wanted the three to stand out from the back ground I used Photoshop to give spot colour. In my camera bag
These days, my Fuijpix S8400, my phone but still use my Yashica FXD SLR for colour film and a more recent acquisition - my Pentax Spotmatic F I used for Black and White Ilford.Feedback
Might not find this particular combination but when visiting (or living) in the UK or other places in Europe who will find things unique to this part of the world. In North America 300 years old is amazing to us. There you walk in to a building that's already been there a thousand or more years. I guess the point is look for something that you definitely won't find at home, take the picture to tell a story not just create a memory. My intention here was to show something commonplace (the mailbox) but also the uniqueness of the airmail box. Iconic symbols found here.
