Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken along the side of the road on the edge of Denali National Park in Alaska. The view was too good to pass up and, thankfully, people I travel with are patient with my frequent photo stops.

Time

This was taken late afternoon July as we drove from Anchorage to Talkeetna to Healy.

Lighting

The nice thing about summer in Alaska is having more light time for photos. When it's still looking like mid-day at 7pm there's more time for getting the great shots.

Equipment

This was taken with my Samsung Galaxy8. It's always on me for those surprise photo ops. I'm often pleased with the photos I get from it and it's so much easier to deploy on short notice than my Olympus.

Inspiration

There are so many truly awe-inspiring vistas when driving in Alaska that whenever possible I liked to stop and capture the view. The openness and lush greens as well as the cloud topped mountain was so peaceful I wanted to be able to revisit it anytime.

Editing

Sometimes I have tweak the light balance or exposure on photos from my phone, but this is the original with only a little cropping.

Feedback

Be sure you always have a camera ready! I like to have 2 with one being super easy to point and shoot for when I don't have enough setup time to use manual camera... animal sightings are sometimes unexpected and it's not always feasible to carry all my equipment with me.
