Around the town of Corolla North Carolina, wild horses that are believed to be linked to when the Spaniards explored the Americas live. These animals have quite a story as they were thousands of them about 35 years ago. Having reached a critically low population, these horses are truly wild. There is land for them to roam in the Outer Banks (I believe it was 7500 acres) and in the small beach communities near by they are allowed to roam free. People are not allowed to interact or approach them - they are wild and there is an effort to keep it that way. It was amazing to learn about them. The egrets and teh horses help each other - the egrets eat the bugs that tend to be around-on the horses. So you see them together a lot.
