Every face tells a story when you take the time to notice. Every wrinkle is it's own story of many experiences. John was sitting outside of his hotel room. Drinking wine, smoking cigarettes and telling me stories of his hardships.

Location
I work next to a cheap hotel that brings around many characters. I was outside talking to some regulars there.Time
Around 4p.mLighting
There was a good amount of daylight. Handheld with no flash worked fine.Equipment
I had my Canon EOS T6i. No tripod. No flash.Inspiration
I am self taught. I made sure to participate in every contest on ViewBug. It opened me up to so many new things. When the “wrinkles” contest came up I was in for a challenge. I had only shot nature. John was distinguished. He had his own style. After talking to him about his hardships, while he drank his red wine out of a paper cup and was smoking away. I asked to photograph him. He was thrilled. I coached him to not look at me and to just be natural.Editing
I edited the photo in Lightroom on my phone. Then I used a filter from a photoshop app to catch as much of the cigarette smoke as possible. In my camera bag
In my bag I have my Canon EOS T61. The two factory lenses it came with. A 50mm lens I just got. A tripod that I should use more. A UV,NB,variable NB filter lenses. And cleaning tools.Feedback
This may have been beginners luck. It’s good to go out of your comfort zone. I knew what the task was. I was keeping my eye out for opportunity and found it with conversation.
