I took this photo of Rambo in his back yard in Cortlandt Manor, NY.Time
It was early evening probably around 7:30 pm.Lighting
I just used the natural outdoor light, no flash.Equipment
I used my cell phone. A Samsung S8. SM-G950U. f/1.7. 1/60 4.25mm. ISO 160Inspiration
I am Rambo's pet sitter. We were playing in the yard and he brought me a stick. He looked at me with such focus, beseeching me to give him instruction as he is a hunting dog who is trained to take directional instructions, and I felt like I had to capture that moment.Editing
I made the image black and white and took the background to black. I also took some shine out of his eyes that I felt was distracting while preserving just enough to keep the eyes "alive". I also adjusted the resolution in photoshop since the image was taken with a cell phone. In my camera bag
I have a Canon EOS 60D Canon EF 400 mm Super telephoto lens. Canon EF-S 60 mm macro and a Canon EF-S 18-200 Zoom.Feedback
I always look for something that speaks to me. I try to connect with my subject and find something below the surface, an emotional depth. When I photograph animals, I try to find something "human" in the eyes, a depth of soul. My advice would be to always look deeper, beyond the surface. Find the stillness within yourself and let the subject "speak to you" thus revealing the true capture.
